Radiation

* Of the 600,000 Americans who die of cancer every year, 11,000 of those deaths can be blamed on the Cold War detonations at the Nevada Test Site, which polluted nearly the entire country with drifting airborne radioactive Iodine (CDC estimate).

* Brazil Nuts have a thousand times more Radium than any other food item.

* Bananas are radioactive from their potassium.

* The largest nuclear disaster in history (Chernobyl) killed 75 people (57 during the accident and 18 children died of Thyroid cancer from drinking the milk of tainted cows).

* According to one study, the increase in cancer rates for survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are about 1% and there is no increase in inherited mutations.

* The average American gets 620 millirems of radiation each year, and that number needs to reach 100,000 to be worrisome.
